A Glimpse into Ralco’s History and Culture
Ralco is home to the Pehuenche community, a branch of the Mapuche people historically settled in the Andes. The Pehuenche are known for their deep connection to the araucaria forests and the piñón, a staple food in their culture. Their traditions, crafts, and way of life are central to Ralco’s identity. Visitors can delve into this rich heritage at the Museo Pewenche, an excellent starting point for exploring the area’s history and culture.
How to Reach Ralco
Ralco is located in the commune of Alto Biobio, Biobio Region, and is primarily accessed from Los Angeles, the nearest city with good transport services.
- The closest airport is in Los Angeles, but due to limited operations at the Maria Dolores Airfield, the best option is often Carriel Sur International Airport in Concepcion, which offers frequent flights from Santiago and other major cities.
- Regular buses run between Concepcion and Los Angeles, covering approximately 126 km. From Los Angeles, rural buses provide service to Ralco.
Natural Wonders

Sustainable Tourism
